
Boston Children's Hospital, which until 2012 was called Children's Hospital Boston, is a 395-licensed-bed children's hospital. It is rated as one of the best hospitals specializing in pediatric care in the world. Children's offers a complete range of health care services for children from birth through 21 years of age. Its Advanced Fetal Care Center can begin interventions at 15 weeks gestation, and in some situations - it will even treat adults. The institution is home to 40 clinical departments and 225 specialized clinical programs. It also offers a global medical second opinion program in partnership with Grand Rounds. Children's Hospital has more than 680,000 square feet (63,000 m2) of state-of-the-art laboratory space, which is larger than any other pediatric medical center in the world. As of 2017, the hospital's research staff consisted of over 1,100 scientists, including members of the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Since 1994, Boston Children's Hospital has the Computational Health Informatics Program (CHIP), which research includes several free and open-source software projects.
