Calico is a research and development biotech company founded in September 2013 by Google and Arthur D. Levinson with the goal of combating aging and associated diseases. Today, it is a subsidiary of Alphabet, which is also Google's parent company. Larry Page described Calico as a company focused on "health, well-being, and longevity," and its name is an acronym for "California Life Company". Calico has established a number of partnerships focused on aging and age-related diseases. Among its partners are AbbVie, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, the Broad Institute of MIT, Harvard, the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, QB3 and AncestryDNA.
