Formed in 2012 as a spin-off of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), HandInScan is focused on reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) that cause more than 250,000 unnecessary deaths in the developed world and 1.4 million cases a day worldwide. The company's Hand-in-Scan device was created to objectively control hand hygiene performance of medical staff. It provides users with an unambiguous visual view of the scanned hand, along with an overall score that indicates the effectiveness of the washing, and the extent of microbe presence post washing. HandInScan promises to improve the hand hygiene technique and support participation in hand hygiene. Also it can help manage risks by statistical analysis and automatization, and be used as a support for outbreak management. In addition to healthcare, HandInScan's the application extends to target clean manufacturing sites, the food industry and high-end tourism.
