Founded in 1996, Idealab is the longest running technology incubator. During the years, it has helped create over 150 companies with more than 45 IPOs and acquisitions. It does that by providing entrepreneurs with capital as well as a full range of resources, including office space and the accompanying office services, development and technology, product and graphic design, marketing, financial advice, human resources, competitive research, legal, accounting and business development support and services, and more. The structure of Idealab allows it to test many ideas at once and turn the best ones into companies, attracting the human and financial capital necessary to bring them to market. Among its notable startups are CitySearch (now a part of IAC), eToys, and Overture Services (which began life as GoTo.com, offering paid search services, and has later been acquired by Yahoo). In addition to Internet, Idealab is also working in other sectors, including robotics, renewable energy, and automotive design and production among others.
