Hawaii Medical Service Association
Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA) is a nonprofit health insurer in the state of Hawaii. An independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, it is also the largest insurer in the state, serving more than 700,000 people. HMSA offers a variety of health plans, including Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans and Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans. It offers plans through employers and individual plans for those not eligible through employer groups. Some health plans may include supplemental benefit coverage for prescription drugs and dental, vision, and complementary care (acupuncture, chiropractic care and massage therapy). HMSA also has health and wellness programs that help members stay healthy and avoid costly chronic diseases. And then there's the HMSA Foundation that provides access to cost-effective health care services; health promotion, education and research; and the promotion of social welfare.
