Bluedrop Medical has developed a patented system to reduce the burden of diabetic foot ulcers. It does that by combining detection technology with the Internet of Things (IoT), to create a connected health system capable of identifying ulcers early, where they can be treated more effectively and cheaply. The result is the world's first home-use, scale-like device that enables a thermal and visual assessment from a single daily scan.

Highlights ⭐

  • Big addressable market: There are currently almost half a billion diabetics worldwide and it has been estimated that up to 25% will develop a foot ulcer at some point in their life. Of the millions who develop ulcers worldwide every year, hundreds of thousands will require amputation due to infection. πŸ”—
  • Solving a costly problem: In the US, the annual cost of treating diabetic foot ulcers is $17 billion. The average cost per ulcer is $17,000 with amputations often costing a multiple of that.
  • Easy to use: Used in the home, the patient simply stands on Bluedrop's device for 30 seconds and goes about the rest of their day. A scan of the feet is taken which includes detailed thermal and HD photographic information. The condition of the soles of the feet will be remotely monitored for thermal and visual signs of inflammation and skin damage.
  • Benefits for providers: Enables remote visual and thermal assessment and remote intervention using HD visual images and thermal data. The device also monitors for signs of inflammation and skin damage which may signal the onset of a foot ulcer. Also included are population management tools; longitudinal assessments of thermal, visual, weight and compliance data; and the ability to stay connected with patients post-healing and between scheduled clinic visits.
