Kheiron Medical Technologies
Kheiron Medical is on a mission to help breast cancer patients live longer, better lives through earlier detection. Its solution, called Mia (Mammography Intelligent Assessment), combines new deep learning methods, data science, and radiology insights to help doctors find malignancies in mammograms. Whilst many AI technologies are not designed to be inclusive, Kheiron's technology has been built from the get-go with diverse populations in mind. This means its AI technology works at new sites and on unseen data for diverse populations.

Highlights β
- Big market: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States, except for skin cancers. It is about 30% (or 1 in 3) of all new female cancers each year. Breast cancer became the most common cancer globally as of 2021, accounting for 12% of all new annual cancer cases worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. π
- It's a life-saving tech: Reliable early detection can mean the difference between life and death for these women, but it is very resource-intensive to build and maintain high-performance breast screening programs under increasing quality expectation pressures. That's where Kheiron Medical's Mia could make an impact.
- It works: According to external clinical trial results, Kheiron's deep learning technology achieves state-of-the-art malignancy detection support in breast cancer screening.
- Great team: Kheiron's world-class team includes machine learning specialists, radiologists and imaging industry experts with backgrounds at leading institutions such as Imperial College, The Royal Marsden, University College London, Edinburgh, Oxford, GE and Philips.
- Media love: Kheiron Medical has been featured in a number of media outlets, including BBC, The Telegraph, Silicon UK, The Financial Times, Forbes, The Times, The Economist, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, etc.

“
Cancer care today is defined by fear and uncertainty but we believe we are on the cusp of a new age when AI-supported approaches to diagnostics will enable earlier and more accurate detection, tracking, and as a result better treatment outcomes. We invested in Kheiron because we believe they have one of the best machine learning teams in the world but also because they have such a deep understanding of radiology and the clinical validation required in order to usher in this new era of cancer diagnosis and care.
— Irina Haivas, Atomico π
“
AI is also a huge opportunity to address the fact that patients are diverse, with some more at risk than others. While cancers can look different from one woman to the next, AI will be able to assess this breadth of images to the same standards, if trained and developed in the right way. That's why collaborations like this one are vital.
— Mary S. Newell, Interim Director of the Breast Imaging Division at Emory University's Winship Cancer Institute π
“
The partnership between MaMMa Klinika and Kheiron was formed with the vision that AI, together with our expertise, could create a new future for better breast care. With the demands on screenings increasing and the number of radiologists decreasing across Europe, Mia can help us to achieve a more sustainable service and provide a better patient experience.
